“CASK” by Alma Dance Theater
April 7, April 28 & May 12 | 8:00 pm | Faena Theater
This Spring, Faena Theater welcomes Alma Dance Theater for three special performances of “CASK”, a contemporary and theatrical ballet inspired by “The Cask of Amontillado” by Edgar Allan Poe.
Created in 2012 by Marissa Alma Nick, “CASK” tells the tale of the malevolent Montresa, who has been betrayed by her one true love, Fortunata. Deeply haunted and driven by her revenge-seeking demons, Montresa plots to dominate and murder her beloved Fortunata once and for all.
Infused with Alma’s signature seductive flair and femme empowerment, “CASK” has been widely celebrated throughout Miami for its dynamic, sensual storytelling and site-specific adaptations. For its three shows at Faena Theater on April 7, April 28 and May 12, “CASK” will feature new music, costumes and choreography. The cabaret-style performance will also feature new staging, with audience members seated in the round.
Alma Dance Theater is a Miami-based, female-centric performance group created and directed by Marissa Alma Nick, an award-winning choreographer and Miami native. Since its founding in 2014, Alma Dance Theater has received numerous accolades, including the 2017 Knights Arts Challenge and Miami New Times’ “Best Dance Company” award in 2018.
